1) Visit a Dentist

If it’s been an extended period since you’ve seen a dentist, then make an appointment as soon as possible. Most dentists recommend seeing a dentist twice a year. Although, depending on the severity of the damage of your teeth and gums, you may need to schedule frequent appointments. A healthy smile boosts your confidence and well-being,  but more importantly, makes your mouth less susceptible to gum disease, oral cancer, and other adverse oral health effects.

2) Don’t Skim on Brushing and Flossing

Most people know that you should brush your teeth for at least two minutes, twice a day or more as needed. However, flossing is essential as while. Floss reaches the crevices that a toothbrush can not. Brushing your teeth only cleans roughly 60% of your tooth structure. Without flossing, 40% of your tooth remains untouched and uncleaned. Floss is still gold standard for cleaning in between your teeth. Flossing also aids in reducing halitosis, or bad breath because it removes unwanted food while also removing plaque.

3) Eating Healthy

Eating healthy not only helps with dieting and weight loss, but it makes your enamel durable. When you eat fatty, sugary, and acidic foods, it weakens the enamel. The consumption of fruits and vegetables has so many benefits for your oral healthcare but your overall health as well. If you do want to enjoy a sugary snack, make sure to brush your teeth and floss afterward.

4) Use Mouthwash

Mouthwash also prevents bad breath, but it also helps to rinse away bacteria that can stick to your teeth and gums. Cleaning your mouth with mouthwash combats gum disease. Make sure to rinse for 30-60 seconds. However, make sure you use mouthwashes with NO ALCOHOL and a neutral pH. Many mouthwash products are actually acidic and can damage your enamel. 5) Refrain from Smoking

Breaking a smoking habit is challenging, but it will help you in the long run. Smoking is damaging because the tar and nicotine found in tobacco products turn teeth yellow or brown, leads to gum erosion, tooth loss, and can make the mouth an open environment for plaque and bacteria.
