When one of our patients express to us that they’ve had toothaches, we check for cavities and cracks. We do this by examining the tooth visually, and also via x-rays. If we find that the tooth needs a filling, we then go on to fix the tooth. After we numb the tooth with a local anesthetic (so that patients feel no pain), we use a dental handpiece to remove any decay and bacteria that may have weakened the inner tooth. We then clean out the tooth with antibacterial scrubs before sealing the tooth with a dental filling. We will ensure that that filling aligns appropriately with your bite, and if not, we’ll make adjustments.
A Message About Mercury
We are a family practice that does NOT use silver fillings. All filling in our office is tooth-colored. These older silver fillings contain small amounts of mercury which can be detrimental to our health. When removing older silver fillings, we make sure to use extra steps to keep you safe. These steps include:
- Patients take Vit-C and Charcoal tablets prior to the appointment. These act to collect free radicals that get released during amalgam removals.
- All treatment is done under isolation using a rubber dam or Iso-Dry suction device. This isolates our working area from the rest of your body. Keeping you Safe!
- Lastly, our extra-oral vacuums collect any extra mercury vapors that may be generated.
